Choices and Fair Trade PDF Print E-mail

jdecarlo.jpgOn February 12, Net Impact SLC and Ten Thousands Villages hosted author and activist Jacqueline DeCarlo for a presentation at Westminster College.

Jacqueline spoke about the impact that we can all have as consumers as we make choices about how we expect producers will be connected to us. She pointed out that we vote every day with our purchases, so we have the power to effect change through our conscious choices.

Speaking to many students in the audience, Jacqueline also discussed the impact that students can make in this movement and provide some examples of what others have done across the nation to empower people in far-away countries.

Through her travels and experiences with Third world artisans, Jacqueline has come to understand first-hand the benefits of Fair Trade relationships to both producers and consumers.  Convinced that Fair Trade offers a sustainable and empowering framework for understanding consumption and trade, Jacqueline returned to the United States determined to help educate other consumers about Fair Trade’s power and potential.  She has since worked as the Executive Director of the Fair Trade Resource Network.
