Big D Works for Me !!! PDF Print E-mail
I didn't know that commercial buildings commonly generate so much heat.  I couldn't believe that 1) the outside air ducts were open, letting in VERY cold air during our site visit lunchtime on January 24 and 2) heating is rarely required in this building even during the winter!  The boiler for this four story building is only the size of my home refrigerator!  It was great to get the scoop on the LEED point system from somebody certified in the design and review process.

I love the light in the building.  The core atrium, that is  cut out of existing floors capped by a large skylight, creates not only a completely open stairwell but incredibly soft indirect daylight penetrating all of the perimeter work areas.  Combined with continuous fresh airflow, the atrium has made a healthier space resulting in a significant reduction in employee absences due to respiratory ailments.

While it was fun to see a "gold" LEED project, I think everybody's eyes got bigger when we heard that Big Di is working on not one but TWO "platinum" projects. One is the Swaner Nature Preserve Education Center,  slated to be the first platinum LEED project in the intermountain west.   I know that our Net Impact Chapter members will want to visit that project soon !!!
